Lectors

Proclaiming the Liturgy of the Word at Mass

The ministry of Lector is a very important part of the celebration of the Mass.  Lectors are scheduled to serve on weekday and weekend Masses (see the section below for information about Youth Lectors at the 10:00 AM Mass).

Prayer is an essential part of the Lector preparation.  The reader must spend time to prepare and reflect on the reading.  Lectors need to speak slowly and deliberately to proclaim the Word as it is written.  Spending time in preparation provides a more meaningful experience for the whole congregation.  Whether you are a Youth Lector or an Adult Lector, it is essential to work with the Lector Coordinator to arrange your schedule of  Mass coverage and commit to the personal responsibility of finding another Lector to fill in for you at your scheduled Mass.

Youth Lectors

Children in Grade 4 and above can become Youth Lectors who read the Word at the 10:00 AM Family Mass on Sunday.  Youth Lectors need to:

  • Be able to follow instructions
  • Possess a clear speaking voice
  • Be willing to spend time in preparation so that they are comfortable reading in front of the congregation
  • Work with the Lector Coordinator to arrange to read at Masses that will work with their schedules
  • Commit to the personal responsibility of finding another Youth Lector to read when a scheduling conflict arises

You may print out a registration form to become a Youth Lector by downloading the form here.  For questions and more information about becoming a Lector at St. Bonaventure Parish, please contact Christopher Ricci at 508-224-3636, Ext. 151 or stbonmusic@verizon.net.
